Thanksgiving 2015

I'll be honest…Thanksgiving 2015 sucked.  However, we did have a few highlights.

On Wednesday night, we went over to a friends house for Friendsgiving, which was a good time.  I took these photos before we left.

Thursday morning we all slept in a bit and then got ready and left for my parents house to join them for the weekend.  My grandparents surprised us all by joining us for lunch and staying for a few games of BINGO.

Doesn't he look like an infant again?!
That night Murdock got sick and the following morning Adam and I had to go to the vet to put him down {the rest of my family took the kids to pick out a Christmas Tree}.  Adam and I debated about coming home and hibernating, but ultimately decided we just wanted to be with family to help keep our mind off everything, so we went back to my parents and helped her decorate for Christmas.

That night we played cards with the neighbors.  They taught us Canadian Salad which was a great time!

On Saturday, us girls went shopping and then had the neighbors over for games again.  We had intended to leave fairly early on Sunday to get settled for the week, but neither one of us was in a hurry to get home {& be reminded of Murdock more} so we stayed at my parents until after the Viking's game and ended up getting back to the lake around 5p.

My Little Iowa Girl…{SALE!}

℅ Gia Rose Designs
Two months from today is the big Iowa/Iowa State football game!  Jordyn got the opportunity to do a little modeling for the adorable Gia Rose Designs.  I love that she handmakes all kinds of adorable children's clothes, but also because she's located right here in Des Moines!  Jessica also offers home shows, so you can invite your friends over and shop in person--once things calm down at our house, I really want to do this!  PS...sources say Jessica is expecting her 3rd child in September and offering 28% of everything on her site with promo code BACK2SCHOOL right now :)  Thanks so much for letting us be a part of your fall clothing release, Jessica!

My 5 Biggest Time Savers...

The following are all mentioned in terms of parenting, because that's where I use them most, but they could all be applied to 'non-parent' lives as well...

Now that school is in session and we're all getting into routines again, I thought I would share five places in our everyday life where I save myself a few minutes...

Fold Laundry While Watching TV | I can't tell you the last time I sat down and watched TV without folding laundry {or editing, but since most of you aren't photographers, that wouldn't apply!} I pretty much do a load of laundry each night.  It works great for us, because I pretty much only stay up long enough to fold one load of laundry after the kids go to bed, before I go to bed.  :)

Clean The Bathroom While The Kids Are Taking Baths | We bathe our kids every other night, so one {or two} nights a week I use this time to clean the bathroom.  I usually have just enough time to clean the mirror, dust, and scrub the counter, toilet, & floors before one of them is ready to get out. On the rare occasion they're playing really nice together and behaving {not wrestling in the tub, taking toys from each other, or dumping cups of water onto the floor--true story!} I'll also use the time to tidy our room {which is connected to the bathroom}.  Also, now that they're a little older I use the other bath night {or two} to put clothes away or unpack bags from the weekend. {again, within eyesight of the bathtub}.  And I'm always listening for it to get quiet--quiet is rarely good in our house! :)

Book Appointments In The Car | Utilize car time!  I use Bluetooth {speaker} in the car to book appointments and reorder prescriptions while stuck in traffic {or at stoplights}.  With a family of four {plus a dog on several medications} we're constantly at appointments {eye, medical, dental, vet, specialists, etc.} and filling prescriptions.  Bonus for me, Adam drives 99% of the time when we're together, so I use that time to respond to emails and make phone calls.

Listen To Books While Working Out | I talked about this one here, but it had to make this list.  I would probably read 5 books a year if it weren't for listening to books on my kindle.  I listen to books while running {bonus::makes the time go by 462864286 times faster!} and also while I'm driving to and from work and photosessions {the kids aren't in the car}.  Also listen to books while editing client photos, but again that won't apply to most of you.  Because of this, I've read over 80 since January.  Best.invention.ever!

Prep The Kids Clothes For The Week | This one is so easy and is such a time saver for us!  Sunday night, when I would normally lay Monday's clothes out for the kids, I grab clothes for the whole week. Takes me like 5 minutes longer, but saves me at least 20 minutes a week.  I happen to have an old locker room wire basket that fits the weeks clothes just perfectly.  I was forgetting to lay clothes out some days and letting the kids {Jordyn} pick out their outfits each morning is a battle I don't have the energy to fight takes forever.  Doing this all on Sunday saves me {Adam} about 5 minutes each morning {& 5 extra minutes in the morning is a big deal!}.  *One suggestion is to have the weather forecast ready {especially this time of the year} or to have a bonus {warmer/cooler} outfit in the basket for the days the weather changes.

>>What advice do you guys have for making the weeks go by smoother?

Easter Baskets & Books {2yoGirl | 1yoBoy}

I always try to make Easter Baskets practical, so they vary each year depending on when the kids' needs are.  {This will be Cullyn's 1st Easter, he came just weeks after Easter last year}  I hope this helps your Easter Bunny this year...
Same tins as last year {I believe I got them at Target}
This year the kids are both getting TOMS.  Typically I get them Keens for Easter since they would need a pair for summer, but they were both covered already this year and Zulily had a sale on TOMS {which will be perfect for our family photos in April} so I went ahead and purchased these.

L to R :: Target | Younkers | Kohls
Swimwear is another thing I always like to put in Easter baskets.  Probably because my mama used to do this for us.  Cullyn got two because he only has one {and we're going to Florida this year}.

Mainly from Kohls, some from Old Navy & Younkers, Jammies from Children's Place
I like to get the kids Easter pajamas {because they usually need spring/lighter weight jammies at this time anyways}, unfortunately I couldn't find any easterish jammies for Cullyn so he got a spring jacket instead {Jordyn has like 3 right now}.  It's also the perfect time to give the kids a couple of new summer clothes {which, again, they would need anyways}.  Jordyn fits into many of her summer clothes from last year, so I just got her a few new pieces {mainly for Florida}.  Cullyn obviously doesn't have anything for summer so he got lots.  {Can you tell I'm loving all of the nautical wear out there right now?!}

Since Jordyn's basket was a little less {moneywise} I loaded her up with some of her favorites {chapstick & nail polish}.  She didn't have any sunglasses and begged for these when we were shopping the other day, so her dad bought them for her.  She is currently obsessed with coloring & stickers so I got her an activity book and new crayons {on clearance at Target}

The final piece I added to their baskets {after the photos} was a gift certificate for swimming lessons at the local YMCA.  I love to have the kids take swimming lessons right before summer to help get them reacquainted to the water again.  {Another thing my wonderful mama always did for us!} :)

*Also, we haven't ever given chocolate in Easter baskets {since our kids don't really eat it--and Grandparents do good enough providing naughty treats like fruit snacks!} but I do like to add a few snacks like puffs, raisins/craisins, goldfish, etc.

And lastly, my kids are obsessed with books {which I love} so this is what we've been reading nonstop for the last week...
All of them are board books with the exception of The Berenstain Bears' book
