We pulled it off! My mom and I surprised my sister by flying out to watch her first marathon. After running a marathon myself, I knew I had to be there for it!
We flew in the afternoon before and my brother in law picked us up from the airport.
My sister works from home, so we surprised her by ringing the doorbell at her house. She was just as surprised as I thought she would be. Many tears & screams followed! ;)

That night we made individual homemade pizzas and chatted before calling it an early night.
Five AM came very early! The race started in the dark! They started and ended at Fluor Field. Brad, my mom, Kiko {the pup}, & I followed her around cheering her on as much as possible {I think we saw her 13 times in the 26.2 miles!} I have to take a moment to brag, because not only did she finish a marathon {I had zero doubts} but she KILLED IT!! She ran 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 37 minutes {that 7 minutes shy of qualifying for the Boston Marathon!}. She got 41st {overall} and 8th female {1st in her age bracket} with a pace of 8:18! Plus she did the whole thing with a SMILE ON HER FACE! She honestly looked like she could run 26 more when she got done! What the heck?!
Who looks this good at mile 22?!
We were back home by 10am. We ordered Sully Steamers for lunch and spent the afternoon chatting, resting, & playing games. It was THE BEST! {I hadn't seen my sister & BIL for 8 months, so I was looking forward to this!} That night Brad made us reservations to Up On The Roof. The food, service, Purple Rain, & company were amazing!
The next morning we slept in, took Kiko for a walk, and packed up. Alicia and Brad took us to the boutiques downtown for some last minute shopping and then we stopped for a late lunch at The Commons before heading to the airport. It just so happened that my sister was flying out of the same airport for a work trip, so we all went together!
Thank you so much for an amazing weekend, Sis!
& CONGRATULATIONS on running your first marathon!!
